A fatigue damage assessment approach in vibration fatigue exploiting the static approach
The dynamic simulation of structural components within dynamic systems under random loads is commonly addressed using multibody models, where flexible elements are often modeled using the modal approach. While incorporating flexibility allows for a more comprehensive understanding of its impact on the overall system dynamics, certain components are intentionally designed to function as rigid bodies. Consequently, including flexible elements in multibody models can lead to complex and time-consuming analyses in such cases. This motivates the adoption of rigid body multibody models, where components are characterized solely by their inertial properties. Dynamic forces applied to these components are then extracted for verification, and stress assessment is performed using the principle…

Dynamic forces applied to these components are then extracted for verification, and stress assessment is performed using the principle of superposition in the time domain. This study introduces a novel methodology by extending this approach to the frequency domain. By leveraging the simplicity of rigid multibody models and tapping into the computational capabilities of the frequency-domain method, this methodology proves to be a pragmatic and efficient means of evaluating fatigue damage in components exposed to random loading conditions. The proposed method offers a rapid, effective, and robust approach for verifying and designing rigid mechanical components integrated into dynamic systems subjected to random loads.
