The role of edge surface quality on cyclic deformation behaviour of non-oriented electrical steel sheets
Cyclic deformation behaviour of thin 3 % Si polycrystalline ferritic steel sheet is investigated in dependence on edge surface quality. Therefore, two different edge conditions are compared, whereas the edge is either polished or wire cut by Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM). The corresponding specimens are investigated by 3D optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Strain- and stress-controlled fatigue tests are performed to determine S-N curves as well as cyclic hardening/softening curves. Differences in surface roughness are measured before, during and after the fatigue tests by non-contacting (optical) profilometer. SEM observations of fractured surfaces show the crack propagation mechanism and EBSD investigation indicate a correlation between grain orientation and…

SEM observations of fractured surfaces show the crack propagation mechanism and EBSD investigation indicate a correlation between grain orientation and fatigue crack characteristic. The results are used as a reference for upcoming studies regarding punched electrical steel sheets.
