Out of the showcase - into the assembly. Additive manufacturing has been an established process for the production of design models or prototypes for both plastics and metallic materials for some time now. What is new is that the first components for small series - for example in the automotive industry - are now also being additively manufactured.
Compared to prototype applications, however, the requirements for the production of these ‘series components’ are much more extensive. Therefore, in addition to design freedom, properties such as reproducibility, predictability and operational stability are now also becoming the focus of interest.
Additive manufacturing processes are considered forward-looking and are therefore attracting a great deal of attention. The manufacturing process takes place layer by layer, which enables the production of highly complex components as well as delicate yet rigid and high-strength structures. Small series production is therefore possible.
The aim of the DVM working group conference is to provide information on scientific advances and modern technical developments in the field of additive manufacturing and to exchange experiences.
