Strain-based life assessment of components made of ductile cast iron

The strain-based method of estimating product life plays a major role in predicting the lifetime of the low-cycle fatigue (LCF). In this study, the coefficients of UML (Uniform Material Law), which was originally derived from steel and aluminum material data, were recalculated based on the collected and tested fatigue data from spherical graphite cast iron specimens. A casting simulation was then carried out to predict the local material characteristics in different areas of a cast component. A finite element model with heterogeneous material was modeled using the newly defined UML for ductile cast iron. The Pswt damage parameter has been used to predict the fatigue life.
